China’s Electric Heavy Trucks Drive Green Freight Transformation in Ningxia
Publication Date: 2026-09-14

Ningxia, a major energy and chemical hub in northwest China, is accelerating the electrification of heavy-duty freight transportation as the region moves toward greener industrial development.

Against the backdrop of growing attention to Ningxia’s cultural tourism, the province is also witnessing a major transformation in its bulk logistics sector. More than 3,400 kilometers of electric heavy-truck charging and battery-swapping corridors have been developed, connecting mining areas, industrial parks and major transport routes.

Qiyuan Core Power has played an important role in this transition through its battery-swapping model for electric heavy trucks. Instead of purchasing high-cost traction batteries, fleet operators can use a battery-as-a-service approach, with battery swapping completed in approximately 3–5 minutes. This helps address key challenges that have limited the wider adoption of electric heavy trucks, including high upfront costs, long charging times and limited energy infrastructure.

Since the first heavy-truck charging and swapping station in Ningxia began operation in 2022, Qiyuan Core Power has developed more than 20 stations across the region, serving over 70 fleets. Its network includes a 1,200-kilometer national highway corridor and a 2,243-kilometer corridor along the Yellow River.

The company is also expanding nationwide, with more than 1,800 charging and swapping stations serving over 6,000 fleets and more than 100,000 electric heavy trucks. By connecting different vehicle models and battery systems, the network aims to make long-distance electric freight more efficient, reliable and scalable.

The development of Ningxia’s electric freight corridors highlights how China is building practical solutions for low-carbon commercial transportation and creating a model that could be adapted to heavy-duty logistics markets worldwide.
